Steve Shriver

The Organic Endurathon Runner

Steve Shriver is a pioneer and entrepreneur in the organic and sustainability movement within the United States.  He has been in the natural skin care business for more than 10 years and is the founder of Eco Lips Organic Lip Balm located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A green enthusiast, Steve initiated a solar power project by working through IRENEW (Iowa Renewable Energy Association), an initiative that turned into one of Iowa’s largest solar power projects, gaining immediate support from the State of Iowa, Alliant Energy and the Department of Natural Resources.

Always sporting an athletic edge, he is a rock climber, runner, ice climber, mountaineer and occasional tri-athlete. In 2003, Steve ran from Cedar Falls, Iowa to Cedar Rapids, Iowa (52 miles) in less than 9 hours to raise money and awareness for Iowa’s homeless population.

Kimberly Dickey

Kimberly's skepticism of modern conventional agricultural methods and its impact on the world's food supply led her at age 17 to practice vegetarianism, and to buy locally grown organic food. Kimberly is the Environmental Sustainability Manager for Frontier Natural Products, Co-op, in Norway, Iowa, and helps steer Frontier's environmental initiatives from green building projects to ethical sourcing.

As Frontier's sustainable landscape designer, Kimberly directs the 60-acre organic farm, botanical garden, reconstructed prairie, wetland and fitness trail which surround Frontier's headquarters. In her spare time, Kimberly is an avid runner, cyclist, yoga practitioner and thrills at every opportunity to rediscover our endlessly fascinating (and often frustrating) world with her two children.

Tom Havran

Tom Havran is a product expert within the natural and organic products industry.  Since 1993 he has been the principle product development specialist for Aura Cacia, the United States' foremost aromatherapy personal care company.  He has executed dozens of the company's most successful products, including the 3 best selling products in the company's 25 year history and the first to market organic essential oil-based aromatherapy line.  In addition to his love of organic body care, Tom likes to call himself an organic green tea connoisseur; (really he's a hopelessly addicted 4 bowls-a-day Camellia Sinensis snob…"HEY it's not like its coffee!" he says.)  He's also a gardener and vegetarian cooking enthusiast.  In his spare time Tom enjoys creating art, listening to music of any kind, hiking, yoga and cycling.

Mark Patterson

Mark Patterson is a dedicated sales professional striving to spread organic awareness and promote healthy, sustainable living.  Over the past two years Mark has been working with Steve and the rest of the Eco Lips Team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as the VP of Sales.

On any given day you might find Mark out biking, running, swimming, paddling, snowboarding, skating or seeking some other "new" activity.  In 2004 he set out from his hometown of Hiawatha, Iowa on a solo, 4000+ mile, self-contained bicycle tour carrying 100 pounds of gear.  The three month long endeavor took Mark from Iowa to Oregon down to San Francisco, and back to Iowa.  Arriving just in time to ride RAGBRAI which conveniently brought Mark right back through his home town.  While on his journey Mark quickly realized the benefits of natural and organic foods in his diet as he needed it to sustain him.  He has been a strong supporter of the active-organic lifestyle ever since.

In an ongoing effort to push his personal limits, Mark has committed to competing in his first Olympic distance triathlon in June of 2007 and a marathon in September.  His organic message is simply the GIGO (garbage in - garbage out) philosophy.  If you want to feel good, strong and healthy - avoid consuming heavily processed foods containing dangerous chemicals.

Jon Fogarty

Jon Fogarty, entrepreneur, activist and outdoor enthusiast, has been involved with sustainable living issues for over a decade.  He started recycling while in still in high school, long before the idea of curbside pick-up came to the Midwest.  He later co-founded a natural clothing store featuring hemp and organic cotton in 1996 and ran a specialty organic produce business from 2001 to 2002. Jon has also been involved with the natural foods and organic farming industries since 1998.

Jon's ideal vacation involves walking 50 miles in four days with 40 pounds of gear on his back but he can also be convinced to go for a day hike any day of the year.  He has loves skiing (alpine and cross country), snow shoeing and has dabbled in swimming, mountain biking and surfing.  Jon's ideal workout consists of running, yoga and weights with lots of organic food for fuel.

Jon's approach to organics and the environment is holistic.  Quality of life is closely tied to one's immediate surroundings.  A healthy environment leads to a healthy mind, body and spirit. Personal health allows the individual to then focus on the group or society.  Any social problem pails in comparison to the prospect of losing the environment that sustains us in every way and in Iowa, the environment's health is inextricably tied to agriculture.

He has a B.A. in Religious Studies and a Certificate of Entrepreneurship from The University of Iowa and a M.B.A. from Hawaii Pacific University.
